West Side of San Juan Island
The west side of San Juan Island is one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to enjoy a picnic during the day or a romantic evening watching the sunset; one should not leave San Juan Island without stopping here first. The west side boasts breathtaking marine views of the Haro Straight and Olympic Peninsula as well as Canadian islands off in the distance.

Attractions on the west side include San Juan County Park, Dead Man's Cove and Lime Kiln State Park commonly known as Whale Watch Park.
With trails that lead to grassy and rocky viewing areas, you can sit along the cliffs and often see orca whales passing by in the distance. It is not uncommon to see fox and deer along the west side road or to spot bald eagles perched in the trees that line the cliffs.

To get to the west side of San Juan Island from downtown Friday Harbor follow Spring Street up an out-of-town... you will soon enter some farmland where you will need to take a left onto Douglas Road. Follow Douglas Road for a mile or two until it makes a right angle turn where it turns into Bailer Hill Road. Continue on this road up and over the hill and you will soon reach the coastline. You're now officially on the west side of San Juan Island. Keep a lookout for pullouts and signs for attractions.
