Pelindaba Lavender Farm on San Juan Island
A nominee for "Best Public Garden in the Northwest," Pelindaba Organic Lavender Farm grows organic lavender plants and crafts a variety of products using essential oils from its own flowers. Situated on the southwest portion of San Juan Island and easily accessible from Friday Harbor, Pelindaba Lavender welcomes visitors. Admission to the farm is free, and one to two hours is recommended to partake in activities. However, while visitors are welcome to stroll through the fields between November and April, activities are only available from May to October.

At the farm's Visitors' Center, visitors can learn all about Pelindaba's history, how lavender is cultivated, how essential oils are processed, and the roles lavender has played in cultures around the world. Visitors can also observe the process of lavender cultivation at the Demonstration Garden. At the Cutting Field and Craft Workshop, visitors can harvest bouquets of lavender and make their own lavender crafts.
The Nursery has plants available for purchase, and the Gatehouse Farm Store offers lavender-based toiletries, therapy products, cleaning supplies, room fragrances, home decor, jewelry, and more. Visitors are also invited to bring a picnic to enjoy at the farm's picnic facilities, and can pick up some lavender lemonade, ice cream, tea, or cookies to go along with the meal.

Visitors to San Juan Island in July should be sure not to miss the Annual San Juan Lavender Festival, which usually takes place at the farm on in July. Attendees will be able to see the farm's entire process, from lavender fields to finished products, try their hand at harvesting bouquets and making crafts, and sample drinks and treats made with lavender. The ice cream is always a big hit!
The lavender farm is on the way to and from the west side of San Juan Island and Lime Kiln State Park ( aka Whale Watch Park ).
